Persian Minimalism

ABOUT

CozyMinimal is a Sydney-based band formed in 2022, weaving Persian melodies with the evocative aura of minimalism. Since their debut at Glebe Town Hall with the legendary Masoud Mosallanezhad, they have become a regular presence in the Iranian Music Festival and beyond, collaborating across genres and communities. Their debut album is set for release in July 2025.

PHILOSOPHY

Rooted in the experimental spirit of 1960s minimalism, CozyMinimal draws inspiration from pioneers like La Monte Young, Terry Riley, and Steve Reich—emphasising repetition, gradual evolution, and deep focus. This aesthetic finds a natural echo in Iranian forms like Khayyam Khani, where rhythmic poetry recitation creates a trance-like effect. CozyMinimal weaves these worlds together, inviting listeners into a meditative space where sound unfolds slowly and meaning emerges through patience and repetition.

Visual Collaboration

CALLIGRAPHY

CozyMinimal often engages in interdisciplinary projects, exploring the intersection of sound and other art forms. We were privileged to collaborate with the renowned calligraphy artist Reza Taghipour, whose live calligraphy performance during the Iranian Music Festival brought a powerful visual dimension to our music. His spontaneous brushwork, unfolding in dialogue with the sound, created a unique space where Persian visual tradition met contemporary sonic exploration.
